Cool, Marty. Although my emails seem to be posting to ourlists, I apparently haven’t been getting those of others recently. Perhaps because my Internet was disrupted. I’ve sent Jeff a message asking for him to help straighten that out and make sure they’re forwarding to me. In the meantime, I’m copying this response to the LPSF Activists list so others can see what we’re talking about and weigh in if desired.

Hi Marty,
Thank you for this – your draft flier/handout looks great! It looks like you only sent it to me though. Is it okay to share with others on the list? https://forum.lpsf.org/t/starchild-s-outreach-to-unhoused-persons-draft-handout/22186 As always, I’d like to get more conversation and engagement going there. I am going to work on some content that we can plug into it. I’ll also try to bring one of those little folding “booklets” made from a single sheet of 8.5” by 11” paper to our March meeting, so if you can make it, you’ll be able to see what I’m talking about and how they are designed.
I agree with you about a “personal” touch, and am fine with including my contact info and photo if desired. I’m not familiar with the “printout code” approach you mention of getting something printed, but that sounds potentially useful. Although we might be able to get it done significantly more cheaply by using a smaller, less “name brand” printer than FedEx/Kinko’s.
I’m not sure whether there are any statistics on how many homeless people vote. I suspect that most do not, and that many may not even be aware that they can register to do so, lacking a permanent address. In fact my understanding (which I should check) is that it is perfectly legal for someone who’s homeless to list a registration “address” like “corner of Turk and Jones streets” and that they can register and vote on that basis. This could be something to list among people’s rights on the flier, as you’ve suggested. Although I was thinking more in terms of a handout with polemic content, such as talking about how thecivil liberties and property rights of homeless people are being violated, how they have to pay tax money to support people making 6-figure salaries at City Hall, etc., some of both could be good.
Regarding homeless people being able to park and reside wherever they choose while “ordinary” drivers get ticketed, I don’t believe this is accurate. Homeless people, and those living in vehicles, are regularly subject to “sweeps” or having to move their vehicles under threat of them being towed. I think many of them rack up large numbers of tickets which they simply do not pay, being unable to afford them. Here are a few articles mentioning aspects of this:

kron4.com https://www.kron4.com/news/bay-area/sf-officials-place-restrictions-upon-unhoused-people-living-in-cars/One reason homeless encampments tend to be filthy (not the only reason, to be sure, but a significant contributing factor) is that the city government’s monopoly trash/recycling/compost service provider (Recology) typically does not service these locations. I’ve sometimes asked housed people how they think their building would look after a few weeks of no trash pickup.
I think encampments should get trash pickup as buildings do, and that there ought to be more public restrooms, more public trash, recycling and compost receptacles, and more regular servicing of these facilities and receptacles. This would reduce the amount of trash, poo, and urine on the streets. Ideally of course these public services would be handled by the voluntary sector, but as with street repair, I think as long as there is a government monopoly, they should be responsible for doing a better job providing and maintaining this basic public infrastructure, as with other things like street paving and sewer pipe maintenance.

@StarChild’s OutReach to UnHoused Persons DRAFT Handout https://forum.lpsf.org/t/starchild-s-outreach-to-unhoused-persons-draft-handout/22186
During the February meeting, @Starchild https://forum.lpsf.org/u/starchild mentioned a superb idea of getting together to creating a Handout to provide to UnHoused Persons as a key form of new 2025 OutReach. However, it’s unnecessary to go to the trouble of coordinating another in-person meeting when @StarChild https://forum.lpsf.org/u/starchild, Brendan https://forum.lpsf.org/u/Brendan, et al interested can simply draft copy in the forum & & can copy & paste that into a layout. A “DRAFT’ template is attached. You fellows can devise & finalize some text & I can recreate something quickly.I can also just send the final file to printandgo@fedex.com mailto:printandgo@fedex.com & obtain a “printout code” with which any one of Y’all can use to easily make copies in-house at any FedExOffice near you with a purchased FedEx PrintCard OR Your Credit/Debit Card.
Double-sided ( color or black & white ) printed/copied back-to-back, & then bisect it.
I think it is helpful to include contact info & @StarChild https://forum.lpsf.org/u/starchild’s mugshot since many UnHoused folks get a lot of stuff that is dehumanizingly impersonal & generic.
I am curious to learn how many UnHoused Persons vote or how they might otherwise increase the profile of the LPSF. Although I have never owned a car or license ( & have not for years needed a cell phone … & yet have travelled around the World ), most of my automobilist friends & acquaintances never cease to complain & become apoplectically aggravated about parking their expensive vehicles in scarcely available designated spaces in SF & yet still try desperately to avoid astronomically high ticketing — & yet UnHoused Persons are apparently able to “park” & reside in nearly any place they choose, even surrounded by filth ( despite anti-littering laws & steep fines https://codelibrary.amlegal.com/codes/san_francisco/latest/sf_police/0-0-0-226 ), without any significant consequence or enforcement of public space use codes, the violations of which are paid for by all You SF TaxPayers.
