California nearly decriminalizes psychedelics – but governor hits brakes

Very disappointing, but glad to see SF has decriminalized plant based
psychedelics.

Yes, disappointing. I was also disappointed to find out that a new statewide initiative on psilocybin mushrooms that has just started collecting signatures is not a decriminalization measure at all, but instead would authorize a $5 billion state bond measure to pay for a new state agency to fund psychedelic therapy research.

I had expected I would be circulating it and getting signatures, but after looking at it, I don’t think it’s something Libertarians should support.

How are you, Richard? I saw a cryptic message from you about quitting the party, but trying to reach you for follow-up via email and phone/text has been fruitless. Please call me when you get a chance.

Okay, now some good news on this! I just learned from the petition drive organizer I work with that the statewide ballot measure to try to pass a bond measure and create a new state agency to research psychedelics is being withdrawn. I think they still had sufficient time to collect signatures (they were paying gatherers $3 apiece), but apparently the backers pulled the plug for unspecified reasons. That’s $5 billion in bonds that California taxpayers won’t be faced with getting nailed for! Yay…
