Why did Jitneys disappear?

Mike Acree is right that taxis, MUNI, and The City were cheering for
the demise of jitneys. One article quoted how the Police Commission
was magnanimously extending the "period for compliance;" while another
article indicated that the powers that be had finally succeeded in
putting jitneys out of business. I agree with David that jitneys or
some other sort of private shuttle service will come back, initiative
or not, but they will probably fill specific niches.

So, sounds to me like we might have further homework to do before we
can present our draft as it now stands to the attorneys for review. Or
at least we need to understand the context in which the old jitneys
disappeared, and how forces that contributed to their demise have/have
not changed or can be modified.

I feel that I have learned a million things in the past month or
so...good!!
