Vegetarian Dinner/Interesting Presentation on Speciesism with Malcom Greenhill Wednesday, October 24

Hi All. Malcom from the Libertarian Book Club will be presenting on an
interesting subject that may be (and according to Malcom, should be) of
interest to Libertarians. I've been to a few of these vegetarian meals
over the years where they had a speaker or debate, and the speakers were
pretty interesting (food OK too, even for non-vegetarians). Please see the
message below.

A BRIEF INTELLECTUAL HISTORY OF SPECIESISM, WITH MALCOLM GREENHILL, WED.
OCT. 24 AT 6 PM

On Wed. Oct. 24 at 6 pm, enjoy a tour de force on a topic of central
interest to vegans. Malcolm Greenhill, a pillar of the vegan community in
San Francisco, will present, "A Brief Intellectual History of Speciesism."
Here is how he describes what he will present . . .

"Today, we see animals no better than most whites saw African Americans
before the abolition of slavery. We commit unspeakable crimes against
millions of animals every day and we are comfortable with a web of lies to
justify this oppression – animals are stupid, they don’t suffer the way we
do, they exist only to serve our needs.

"Why do we think this way? What are the religious, cultural and
intellectual currents that have influenced our thinking about non-human
animals? How has this changed over time? Drawing on Biblical sources,
ancient Greek and Roman writers and the philosophes of the Enlightenment,
Malcolm will attempt to explain how we have ended up excluding most
non-human animals from the rights, freedoms, and protections afforded to
humans."

Malcolm Greenhill is President of Sterling Futures, a fee-based San
Francisco financial planning firm. He is a founding member of the San
Francisco Financial Planning Association and is a past President and past
Chairman of that organization. He has taught graduate financial planning
courses at Golden Gate University in San Francisco and has been interviewed
by ABC Channel 7 News,
CBS Marketwatch, the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg Wealth Manager, the
Journal of Financial Planning, the San Francisco Examiner and other leading
