An interesting news story about a Mayor charged for performing gay
marriages without a license.
Hmm... it's a slightly different issue. The charge here is that the
couples getting married didn't have marriage licenses. The San Francisco
couples have been issued licenses; the question is whether or not the law
forbidding those licenses is Constitutional.
I have to say the whole idea of a license is offensive. I got married in
1996, and it offended me then that I had to ask the government's permission
and pay money for a license. (My ex-wife didn't understand at the time...
with this issue becoming prominent, she says she's beginning to get it. (-:
) I was even more offended when we had to pay several hundred dollars each
for a court's permission to have an amicable split. I think gay couples
deserve the same right to be harassed and annoyed. S-:
