I wanted to start the letter in a non aggressive matter. Article 1 Section 8 says...To coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin...,
from what I have read on Financial sense.com, and other places the regulate the value thereof refers to purity and quantity of both foreign and domestic coins relative to standards. The framers were allowing congress to prevent fraud through the debasement of US or foreign coins.
It is important to understand the basic meaning and intent of this clause so it is not interpreted as a broad license to impose government money, butd to ensure that money that is out there , either coined by congress, foreign entities, or the people is what it says it is in purity and amount.
I suspect that the misreading of this phrase is the foundation of the governments action.
I think that punishing fraud is a reasonable function of government until we arrive at the perfect anarco capitalist world.
