In other words, just talk about government taking the money, but not
any of the bad things they do with the money once they've taken it? 8)

I find it useful to bring out examples, without taking a position, when
talking about taxes.
For example, someone opposed to the war in Iraq is forced to fund it.
Someone opposed to abortion is forced to fund abortions. Someone
opposed to outlawing drug use or prostitution is forced to fund arrests,
prosecution, and incarceration. Someone opposed to sacrilegious artwork
is forced to fund it.
By choosing a broad spread of examples, one will offend equally, at
least, while making it clear that these are just examples, not positions
being advocated. That stays on message while still (I hope) making the
point.
