Ellsberg Joins March 19th Stop Funding the War Protest at Speaker Pelosi's Office

SAN FRANCISCO, March 15 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Daniel Ellsberg has
agreed to be the lead speaker at The Stop Funding the War
(http://www.stopfundingthewar.org) rally at 12 noon on Monday, March 19,
2007 in front of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's district office at the San
Francisco Federal Building, 450 Golden Gate Avenue. Other featured speakers
at the rally include Matt Gonzalez, Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi and Rabbi
Michael Lerner of the Tikkun Community.
Also today, the House Appropriations Subcommittee passed a $124 billion
supplemental bill that fully funds the war in Iraq through FY 2007. This
bill is expected to be considered by the full House next week.
Although the House leadership is touting a redeployment timeline
attached to the authorization, organizers believe this is too little, too
late. The legislation provides four exceptions that the Administration
could use to justify a continued troop presence in Iraq after August 2008,
including training Iraqi troops and engaging in special actions for the
purpose of "killing or capturing members of ... terrorist organizations
with global reach."
"Bush could drive an 18 wheeler through these exceptions," said protest
organizer Marc Joffe. "Rather than creating a coalition to pass the
supplemental, Pelosi and other House leaders should be using their
influence to block passage of any further Iraq war funding measures. The
Administration could use existing appropriations to fund a safe and
immediate withdrawal."
    Confirmed speakers include:

Aimee Allison, Army Veteran and Conscientious Objector

John Caldera, Veterans Community Action Network

Daniel Ellsberg, The Ellsberg Fund for Truth Telling

Matt Gonzalez, Attorney and former President of the San Francisco Board of
    Supervisors

    George Johnson, Veterans for Peace

Krissy Keefer, 2006 Candidate for House of Representatives, 8th
    Congressional District

    Tracy Knott, Treasurer, Democracy Action

    Rabbi Michael Lerner, Tikkun Community

Ross Mirkarimi, San Francisco Supervisor, District 5

Sean O'Neill, President, Iraq Veterans Against the War, Berkeley Chapter

    Justin Raimondo, Editorial Director, Antiwar.com

Anne Roesler, Military Families Speak Out

Howard Wallace, Vice President of San Francisco Labor Council & National
Board Member of Pride at Work

Dear All,

The lineup of speakers is pretty impressive, including our own Justin
Raimondo. This Rally was inititated by Libertarians, and although its
intent is to be non-partisan, it would be a shame if we did not take
the opportunity of this event to promote ourselves a little. I have a
Libertarian banner which I borrowed from Lawrence Samuels and a box
of buttons also from Lawrence; it would be great to have LPSF
volunteers to help hold the banner and wear the buttons.

Regards,

Marcy
