On Thursday, SFMTA executive Jeff Tumlin threatened to suspend cable car service in order to deal with Muni’s operating deficit.
I suspect this is a way to scare elected officials and voters to increase Muni funding, but it also opens the door to a libertarian solution.
Rather than shut down the cable car, muni should sell it to a private operator.
I made the case for this idea last year at: https://www.cato.org/blog/san-francisco-loses-tens-millions-cable-car-service
