Sheehan

Anyone still dispute that she's being used as a stooge by the nutty left?

CARACAS (AFP) - Anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan, mother of a US
soldier killed in
Iraq, joined more than 10,000 anti-globalization activists in Caracas,
where she hailed Venezuela's leftist President Hugo Chavez.

Derek,

Does supporting an idea make you a stooge to the group associated with it?
If so, are we "stooges" of the LP?

-- Steve

Steve:

Stooge: One who allows oneself to be used for another's profit or advantage

So, no, we are not stooges of the LP. If and when the LP is
sufficiently organized, it may progress to the level of having
stooges. But not yet, as far as I can tell.

Ok, so are you saying Sheehan actually doesn't support the anti-globalization movement but has been manipulated into saying she does? If so, I don't see how her participation by itself establishes this, any more than someone participating in some LP related activism implies, in itself, that the person is a stooge of the LP. Am I missing something?

Steve:

Yes, you are missing lots of things. Let's roll the tape back to the
beginning of the media sensation that was Cindy Sheehan:

1. Cindy Sheehan appears outside Bush's Crawford, Texas ranch with the
following message: "I'm just a grieving mother from Vacaville, CA.
Why won't Bush come talk to me and tell me why Casey had to die?"
Witness the following Sheehan quotation: "I now know [Bush is] sincere
about wanting freedom for the Iraqis,' Cindy said after their meeting.
'I know he's sorry and feels some pain for our loss. And I know he's a
man of faith,' " and, "For the first time in 11 weeks, they felt whole
again. 'That was the gift the president gave us, the gift of
happiness, of being together,' Cindy said."

2. The liberal media ate this up. What a human interest story!
Baby-killer Bush won't come speak to this poor woman who "just wants
to know why her son had to die". Soon a crowd of fringe leftists were
gathering around Sheehan.

3. Suddenly, with this media exposure, and funding by the leftist
George Soros, Sheehan had a LOT more to talk about, - for instance the
Israel-Palestine question, marching with the socialists in Spain, and
now, apparently supporting Hugo Chavez.

I believe Cindy loved her son and is truly grieving over her death. I
know I would be if either of my two sons were killed in a war. So,
considering her early positive statements about Bush I see two
possibilities:

1. She started out as a grieving mother wanting to talk to Bush to
gain some comfort over the loss of her son. Having received all this
attention from the media and the fringe left, she is now enjoying her
role as a figurehead for the anti-war crowd, and going on well past
her 15 minutes of fame. Being intoxicated with the adulation and
attention of the media, she has allowed her message to be co-opted by
the loony left and is now on a world tour pushing causes wholly
unrelated to the death of her son Casey. In which case she is a dupe,
a stooge.

2. The more nefarious case, where she is merely using her son's death
to advance a broader, leftist, anti-Semitic agenda.

I believe case 1 is more likely, especially given what we know about
who is funding her foreign expeditions.
