The mayor is Chuck Reed, and yeah, I had the same reaction of being surprised at his apparent misguided stance on this. He seemed to have a fairly clear grasp of the public pension problem, and the outsize role of police and fire departments in that problem, so I wouldn't have expected him to bow to law enforcement on the cannabis issue. Of course, not living in San Jose, I'm not that familiar with its local politics, and realize such things are often murky (strange bedfellows and all that).
