Just think how much more "compassionate" (read: generous) dispensary owners could potentially afford to be if they were not required to pay a $10,000 application fee and $3000 a year to the city government! For that kind of money, shouldn't the SFPD be providing some protection to clinics against the Fed's goons? Or maybe the Sheriff's Department? Courts have ruled that sheriffs are the highest law enforcement officials in their counties, and that their authority exceeds that of the Feds (see article below). Alternately, maybe we should demand that this revenue being sucked out of our community be used toward purchasing cannabis for those who can't afford it. What say you, Supervisor Mirkarimi?
