Glad to hear of your interest in this local quasi-voluntary-sector police force! Here are a couple links with more background info, copied to the LPSF email discussion list in case anyone wants to discuss or weigh in. Some readers may recall that the LPSF tried to work with this group and local merchant Ann Grogan who was a strong advocate of theirs, but most of the group unfortunately showed little energy for political organizing or self-preservation.
Sadly, Jane Warner, the most activist-oriented person working in the Patrol Specials, who is prominently featured in the first link above, died of ovarian cancer in 2010. The plaza at Castro and 17th streets in the Castro neighborhood is named after her, with a memorial plaque, as she was much loved in the neighborhood.
