I’m hoping we can discuss the SF mayoral race at the LPSF meeting today
(3-5pm at SF Main Library, 3rd floor Paley conference room or online via
Jitsi, link on the Meetup page).
While none of the top 5 candidates seem particularly libertarian, I lean
towards recommending Asha Safari for his policies on more housing and tax
cuts for small businesses. Unlike his opponents, he’s not a heartless
homeless camp sweeper and is recovery-focused.
I mentioned at the meeting that since none of the candidates are particularly libertarian, it might make more sense to write up what we disagree with about each of the candidates’ platforms. This gives us the opportunity to talk about libertarian values, in the more concrete world of local politics / policies. I wrote a draft here: San Francisco Mayor Candidates - Google Docs
Thoughts very welcome. Admittedly, I don’t have any particularly strong criticism of Ahsha Safai either.
