SF Health Dept. puts the squeeze on entrepreneurial immigrant and San Francisco icon "The Tamale Lady"

Hi guys,

  I don't know whether there are the makings of a good legal case here (the links below should shed some light on that question), but if there are I think it's one that IJ should definitely consider taking on. Virginia Ramos is a tough, gregarious, plain-spoken woman who would make a hell of a client. She is quite well loved around here, and her plight has already attracted quite a significant amount of publicity:

  Of course the point can be made that with all this publicity and community support, she doesn't need IJ's help. Even a member of the Board of Supervisors is apparently already working on her behalf. However, her popularity and visibility could potentially serve as a springboard to help IJ talk about how other criminalized street vendors not as well known as the Tamale Lady are being denied the opportunity to make a living, and aid them in their struggles.
