SF government crackdown on street vending

At our meeting today, one of the things that came up was street vending. Afterward, I came across this article:
Apparently the mayor and Board of Supervisors, in their lack of wisdom, are trying to crack down on "illegal" street vendors, and just passed a citywide regulation scheme to address types of vending not already regulated under existing controls.

One more way in which government denies people economic opportunity, resulting in more poverty and homelessness.

Anyone interested in doing outreach to street vendors? Other ideas to address this issue?
