Dear Everyone;
The SF Examiner had an Editorial on the possible teachers walk-out after the strike vote was approved. The issue is the school district wants a 7.5% over 18 months the teachers union wants 10% over 18 months.
I proposed a simple solution and the SF Examiner agreed.
Here's the Examiner editorial:

Teacher's Contract
Dear Letters;
The Editorial [Will S.F.S teachers walk out, April 5] was disturbing for several reasons. Only 2,500 of 6,000 union teachers voted on whether or not to strike. Given the concerns over pay expressed by union leaders, there were 4,000 teachers not participating in the strike vote.
The walk-out could happen just prior to the final exams and the evaluation tests for state and federal funding based on student scores.
The idea of a parcel tax is still being considered as a way to raise additional funds.
If the school district, teachers and parents are serious about solving this dilemma there is a solution. The teachers union requires $36 million for a 10% pay raise over the next 18 months. With 60,000 students bill a parent $600 per child attending public schools.
Im certain the direct billing will encourage parents to take an active interest in their childrens schooling and the school districts budget - henceforth.
