Derek - Good question. There is an established
methodology for conducting outreach that involves
talking with a prospect on areas of agreement, not
hitting them head on with a huge paradigm shift.
Trying to convince a hard core leftist that robber
barons were/are good is a tough row to hoe. I've found
that it's generally easier to convince them that
government regulation causes more harm than
good..especially for small businesses, as opposed to
'Chinese rail workers should have quit if they didn't
like their pay and working conditions'.
Internally to the LP I don't believe this is an
issue..at least philosophically.
hope this helps,
David

1. I was the one who mentioned the "rober barons" in relation to the
book "Imperial San Francisco," by Gray Brechin. The book describes
the environmental and other messes that the so called barons left
behind. I do not view these capitalists in a negative or a positive
way; they did what they did.
2. David is correct. My mentioning the book Imperial San Francisco
and the barons was for internal consumption only. The suggestion I
was making is that we go into the field versed in both our own
philosophy and that of the pople who disagree with us. We need to do
that in order to anticipate and address opposing arguments.
