Resignation from most LPSF duties

Dear fellow LPSF activists,

I have decided to resign from all of my LPSF duties except for being in
the Speakers Bureau, so I need other LPSF members to take over the
following:

    * Mailing postcards or packets to people in San Francisco who
inquire about the LP (I have the materials for this) and notifying the
database manager about the mailings (or entering the information
directly into the database).

    * Committing to attending the monthly social hours, taking
literature to them, and making sure that someone talks with visitors.
Alternatively, making sure that another member attends. (I'm planning to
attend the social hour this Saturday, and I may attend most of the
social hours, but I will not be attending business meetings in the
foreseeable future.)

    * Storing the LPSF-owned literature and making sure the supply is
adequate. (Starchild took most of it recently, but I have more. Our
credit with ISIL is $80.)

    * Storing the OPH materials and making sure the supply is adequate.
(Now that we have small tables and are doing Pride booths with East Bay
LP members, our OPH materials can fit in a small car without a hatchback
or be carried by a few people on a bus.)

    * Storing the signs for the tax protests and the Pride parades.

    * Keeping track of the location of other LPSF materials. (Richard
Newell has the LPSF wooden table. Scott Wilson has the concrete tubs
with poles, along with the Outright banner. I have two of the three
small tables. I lost track of the third one.)

The main reason for this resignation is a time deficit due to illnesses
and a new career, but when I do find time for more activism, I intend to
work on specific issues, either unofficially with other LPSF members or
with other activist groups. Or maybe I'll try to get letters and essays
published in newspapers and magazines.

This is not because of a problem with anyone in the LPSF. Fortunately,
I've liked all of the LPSF members I've met. It's just that it seems we
spend most of our meeting time (and much of our email time) deciding
what to do or say as a group, so I want to try working as a "free agent"
for a while, although I do think it's important that the LPSF continues
to exist. I'll try to explain further in another message.

Sincerely,

Kelly Simpson

Hi All,

Kelly will be an asset to the LPSF whether she works as an
independent agent or in a group. I am volunteering to take over the
sending of inquiry packets. Also, if OK with all, I would like to
bring one of the LPSF tables to my home, so that I can do some
tabling on weekends I can spare some time. BTW, there is absoluterly
no rule that says we cannot all be independent agents when we have a
little extra time, as well as being participants in the group
efforts; feel free to write letters to the editor, table on the
weekends, write to our Supervisors, etc. etc. etc.

Dear fellow activists,

When I wrote that I think we spend most of our meeting time and much of
our email time deciding what to do or say as a group, I was not thinking
of anyone or anything in particular. And I'm not saying that it's not a
good use of time. I just need to take a break from it.

Also, I forgot to mention that one of the main reasons why I want to
spend my limited activist time on issues instead of the LPSF is that my
husband is not a libertarian, so I would rather work on issues that we
are both passionate about.

I have a vague theory that when voters agree with libertarians on enough
issues, they will look around for a party that better matches their
views, so I think it's important that the LP continues to exist and to
have a consistently libertarian platform.

Thanks to all of you who keep working to keep the LP alive and true to
its founding principles.

Kelly
