Rec & Park Dept. arrogance -- ballots not yet all counted but construction work in Golden Gate Park already begun with a vengeance

Regardless of how you voted on propositions H and I, you should be outraged at this latest arrogance by the people running SF's Recreation and Parks Department, failing to wait until all the votes have been counted, and failing to wait for the results of a legal appeal by the Sierra Club, but instead charging in with the bulldozers the morning after the election.

The point made by park defenders in the message below that you don't just bring in a construction company on a few hours' notice and therefore the department must have ASSUMED they would win the vote is also an important one, because it raises questions about the integrity of our votes. Only when an election is rigged do people fighting a closely contested ballot measure know what the results of the vote are going to be, before it has even taken place!

I suppose you could call it arrogance. I think after 6 years of approvals
-- the last one unanimous -- and lawsuits that were dismissed, the Park &
Rec people have reason to want to get on with this project. They already
had permits that were approved in the spring, having jumped what they
thought would be the final hurdle in May (a lawsuit).

It's over, and I think we should all close the chapter on this one. It's
only rigged if you think 6 years of answering every possible objection,
over and over again, is rigging the process. I don't happen to think so.
But conspiracy theories always abound where there is controversy.

When I was at Crocker Amazon on Sunday. There were games on all 5 fields.
It was packed with people -- old, young, of all races and ethnicities --
and a lovely place to be. I want to invite everyone who opposed this
project to come to Crocker Amazon any weekend, and to visit Beach Chalet
when it opens, even if you must do so seething with hostility. You may find
yourself still hating every little inch, but I hope you will also see a
little bit of value in these projects.

Hi Starchild. Thanks for the post. Out of courtesy for the process, they could have and should have waited before starting the bulldozing. I'm even more glad than before that I voted YES on H and NO on I. Arrogance is an understatement.
Thanks!Aubrey
