Re: Privacy Self-Defense Workshop/Immigration KYR [July 26]

Hi Brian,

Thank you for writing and giving us a heads-up about this.

Unfortunately our state convention is happening the weekend of July 26 and I won’t be available, but for anyone who may be staying in town, we can post about it on our email list and social media.

We’re also potentially interested in being listed as a partner organization for the event. How would that work?

I attached three images that you could use (english, spanish, mandarin).

Maybe a blurb like this:

Join Secure Justice and friends on July 26 for a free Privacy Self-Defense and Immigration Know Your Rights Workshop in San Francisco’s Mission District.

During this day of workshops, you will be able to join sessions where you can learn:
Workshops on how to maximize privacy protections for your smartphone, laptop, online presence, and data from your vehicle;
Get help with installing our recommended applications on your phone and laptop;
How to setup an emergency preparedness plan for immigration-related issues and how recent changes to immigration law may affect you;
How to be in touch with or support local mutual aid and rapid response organizations;

Secure Justice is proud to partner with experts from the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the San Francisco County Public Defenders Immigration Unit, and the San Francisco Foundation (with more partners coming soon) to bring you these practical tools and training.

We won’t know until the final bills come in. Oakland was larger, we spent
about $21K (also had initial costs that no longer exist). This venue is
smaller, we’ll prob spend around $13K. We’re not looking for more help
putting on the program, but if you wanted to advertise your org and
associate yourselves with this, we could talk about a sponsorship.

Hi Starchild,

Does your group have a listserv? We’re looking for a signal boost for
our free public event in SF on July 26, if you’re open to helping send out
a quick blurb.

Link to event page (registration link is on this page):
July 26 Privacy Self-Defense & Immigration KYR (SF) — Secure Justice

I attached three images that you could use (english, spanish, mandarin).

Maybe a blurb like this:

Join Secure Justice and friends on July 26 for a free Privacy
Self-Defense and Immigration Know Your Rights Workshop in San Francisco’s
Mission District.

During this day of workshops, you will be able to join sessions where
you can learn:

  • Workshops on how to maximize privacy protections for your
    smartphone, laptop, online presence, and data from your vehicle;
  • Get help with installing our recommended applications on your
    phone and laptop;
  • How to setup an emergency preparedness plan for
    immigration-related issues and how recent changes to immigration law may
    affect you;
  • How to be in touch with or support local mutual aid and rapid
    response organizations;

Secure Justice is proud to partner with experts from the Electronic
Frontier Foundation, the San Francisco County Public Defenders Immigration
Unit, and the San Francisco Foundation (with more partners coming soon)
to bring you these practical tools and training.

*Please register here to secure your
seat: July 26 Privacy Self-Defense & Immigration KYR (SF) — Secure Justice
https://secure-justice.org/july-26-sf *

This important event will provide participants with practical resources
and strategies to protect your digital privacy, particularly for
immigrants, Muslims, protestors/activists, individuals seeking reproductive
care, and the LGBTQ+ community.

Lunch, childcare, and translators will be provided (English, Spanish,
Tagalog, and Mandarin confirmed so far
).

Of course, feel free to modify/use any of the text you feel is best.

Okay. If you do other privacy / civil liberties events in the future (especially important in light of recent political developments), please approach us earlier so we can be involved in planning the program. But if you have a specific sponsorship offer, I can run it by the group at our next meeting. Any fliers or graphics for the event?

We won’t know until the final bills come in. Oakland was larger, we spent about $21K (also had initial costs that no longer exist). This venue is smaller, we’ll prob spend around $13K. We’re not looking for more help putting on the program, but if you wanted to advertise your org and associate yourselves with this, we could talk about a sponsorship.

We’re also potentially interested in being listed as a partner organization for the event. How would that work?
