Dear Celine,
It is always smart to be careful. But it really isn't in the purview of
the political class to make those decisions through law. It is rather
their job to do their best to inform. But you can't stop people from
doing dumb things....we've been doing it for a long time and will surely
continue. So you can argue for what you think is best, but you cross
over the line when you start to force people to do it your way.
Regarding tariffs and duties, I believe these were the only methods
allowed in the US Constitution to raise money for government. Once
again, everyone knew that government would have to be moderate or they
would cut off their nose despite their face.
