RE: [lpsf-discuss] San Francisco DA To Retry Juzbasic Marijuana Case - Ann Harrison Article Shows SFPD Still Targets Marijuana

It's interesting (and depressing) that what turned these liberal SF
jurors off to Juzbasic was how much money he was making.

Dear Mike;

  It appears there were more questions by the jury about all the evidence both prosecution and defense presented and the whole trial if the transcript of what happened is correct. It is a good reason why the War on Drugs is such a bust and a waste of time and should be repealed.

  The transcript does not read to be just solely on how much the guy made. But it does appear if he was doing prop 215 work he was running the business sloppily and skirting any basic requirements under the law for Prop 215 providers and guaranteed the Polizei would hunt him down sooner or later.

I agree, Mike. If there is a silver lining, it is that if jurors don't like Juzbasic making $37,500 from January to May, it may be an indication that voters will not look kindly on public officials making over $100,000 a year either.

  By the way, I meant to add in the subject line that the article makes it clear that the SFPD *and* the D.A. still target marijuana.

  On the subject of the D.A.'s drug prosecution practices under Kamala Harris, there was also some revealing information in a front-page article published in Monday's Chronicle. The article's perspective leaves much to be desired -- the basic theme seems to be that the police and the D.A.'s office aren't getting along as well as they might be, but consists of the D.A.'s office defending its practices, while police practices are not really questioned. But I found the following bit informative and none too flattering to Kamala Harris from a libertarian perspective:
