Yes...the Church objects to treating money and material wealth as a deity. The money changers had changed the character of the Temple and Jesus was rightfully outraged.
Early Christian England was Catholic before the Reformation. The ideas of the Scholastics were well-developed and known at that time. Protestants enjoyed the inheritance of the legacy.
