Economics happens...and if it's recession, then that's what we have. It's better to just accept it and try to find ways to take advantage of it. Let's look at the good side. In recessionary times, prices go down. Only a few years ago I was told that unless I had a million in the bank, I couldn't afford to build the computer system I needed. Well now the developers are taking half cash and giving me a year to pay the rest at a fraction of the cost I would have had to pay in "good" times.
Stay out of debt and do your best to protect your job and the value of savings. Then relax and let the cards fall. There's nothing you can do about it anyway.
