There is no sane discussion of economics without a remedy to the drug war. The costs are astronomical and must be borne by the US producers, who cannot compete against foreign producers, who are not carrying the most imprisoned society on earth. This is an inescapable economic reality.

And this is the tip of the iceburg. Forty years into the drug war, compounding the direct economic damage, the opportunity cost exceeds $100 trillion. There will be no favorable economics under this burden.
