I think this is a straw man argument and we shouldn't waste time on it.

As I understand it, a straw man argument is a misrepresentation of the opposing view, set up in such a way that it is easy to demolish. In this case I'm asking for your view instead of representing it myself, so it's not clear to me how that term applies.
