[Re: [LPC - Executive Committee] Does anyone know the name/number of the statute regarding county central committee use of Supervisor chambers?]

Okay, seems that the Brown state building at 505 Van Ness (where the
CPUC offices are) is where SF central committees are allowed to have
their meetings, instead of City Hall (most counties use their county
Supervisor chambers, which is probably why we were told that the law
required that we be given access to Supervisor chambers, but the law
simply requires that some state building within the county be offered.
And sadly we have no shortage of state buildings in SF.

Michael, it seems like you're the ringleader of the "starve the beast"
caucus, so would you be interested in researching this option?

ELECTIONS CODE
SECTION 7870-7871

7870. The Department of General Services shall permit any committee that
desires to do so to hold meetings in a state building within
the county, at least one of which meetings each month shall be
without charge.

http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/calawquery?codesection=elec&codebody=&hits=20

However, before you read into the rest of the surrounding Elections code
and wonder why we don't have 50 men/women on the State CentComm or
alternating choices for Chairman from North and South, read through the
following Supreme Court ruling in EU V. S.F. CTY. DEMOCRATIC CENT. COMM..

According to the ruling, there is no compelling State interest to regulate
the internal affairs of a political Party. Therefore, most of the
election code regulating the Party has been voided.

Does anyone have the name/number of the statute that covers this?

Thanks for your help,

Rob

Dear Dr. Mike;

Try this site and telephone. Go slow and easy when talking with someone as they probably don't have a clue as to what you are referring to:

There is a hearing room that seats 90 persons with a raised dais and a sound system with hearing impaired assistive devices.

There is a three-part, 100 person training room that can be divided into three 30 person rooms. The rooms have a sound system with hearing impaired assistive devices. The center portion of the room has a video projector, input for computers, a sound system, VHS and audio cassette playback.

There is one 60 person room that can be divided into two 30 person rooms.

There are two smaller conference rooms that hold less than 25 people each.

The conference center includes restrooms, public phones and a lactation center for nursing mothers. The key to the lactation center may be obtained from the building manager's office.

The conference center is in the basement of the Hiram Johnson Building.

Conference center information may be obtained at (415) 703-4100.

Dear LPSF Anarchists and Minarchists,

David Omoshayin (703-2936) from the Pat Brown State Bldg., 505 Van Ness,
called me back earlier.

He said the building is closed on weekends, as is the Hiram Johnson Bldg.,
and all State Bldgs in SF.

Warm regards, Michael

Dear All;

Back to the drawing board for an alternative meeting place when one may needed.

Okay, unless there's interest in changing our bylaws model to match the
state party model (we're all members of the "Central Committee" but
really only vote once a year at convention, leaving all other decisions
the rest of the year to the Executive Committee), I think we're stuck
with Saturdays as the most convenient day for people to meet, which
means that we're stuck with privately-owned locations (I trust Richard's
recollection about P&F meeting in a state building on weekends, but in
such a crap economy where even the USPS is considering suspending
Saturday service, I would not be shocked if all government buildings are
now/soon closed on Saturdays), which means that if we want to keep in
one consistent location (unlike my apartment complex's conference room
which will not be available to me once I move out in a year or so), and
don't want to spend upwards of $50/mo just on room rental (no food/drink
included), then we're stuck with (drumroll please)...

The party room of a pizza place. Same as for the last zillion years.

And since Milano Pizzeria has treated us well (and since we more than
made up in January for the lack of purchases of our December meeting), I
am for staying there. We've invested a more than reasonable amount of
effort (Michael investing most of it -- thank you, Michael) in looking
at alternatives, and nothing jumped out as a superior choice, so I like
the status quo.

Plus, now that we're advertising our Pizza Social as a Meetup, interest
has increased, and we're already up to 5 "Maybe" RSVPs from "new" folks
for February 14: http://libertarian.meetup.com/370/calendar/9548107/

Not bad for Valentine's Day weekend.

So, I'm thinking the odds of us having to either spend out of the
Treasury or stiff Milano's on food/bev purchases are dropping. Do we
want to keep investing effort in researching meeting alternatives, or
are we ready to settle?

Dear Rob;

We still should have an emergency alternative for like when the previous pizza place on geary we used got shut down because of bugs and vermin and other vile disgusting things - and that was just the people who attended the LPSF meetings - not even considering what was in the served pizza - bet yah the veggies types didn't know about the meat on the hoof bugs in their pizza!!! Eeeyeeeew Yucky!!

but be that as it may be - an emergency alternative should be on the back burner just in case
like Cybellle's balcony or some such thing - just in case.

Leaving out the food situation the Richmond District Police Station Community Room is usually available on very short notice for a couple hours on Saturday afternoons.

Feel free to investigate the Police Station Community Room, Ron, but I'm
thinking that since some have objected to using a government building of
any sort (we don't want Marcy wearing that paper bag), then for at least
the next year and few months, my apartment complex's conference room can
be our "emergency" backup location -- it's about 1/4 mi from Montgomery
BART/Muni station. After Kai and I have found a new place to live, then
we'll need another option like the Police Station Community Room.

Dear Rob,

Thank you for the excellent assessment of the situation!! I "vote"
that we stay put, because we are now dealing with ideology rather than
practical considerations. The good solution here, as I see it, is to
work like the dickens to bring more folks to the social hour, buy
humungus pizzas, and keep Mr. Milano happy.
