Re: Invitation to KALW Town Hall: What Are We Doing about Homelessness? — Tuesday, 11/7, 6 pm

Hello Ben,

As I told you at 220 Montgomery a couple weeks ago, I’m glad to see your station doing more in-person events. But when will KALW schedule an event including myself or another Libertarian on a panel to talk about this issue, and not just statist-leaning folks who largely agree with each other?

Good morning!

Thanks for writing. These four panelists all have specific interest and
influence on this topic and represent different viewpoints. As with the
last panel you attended, I’m hoping to draw a lot of audience questions and
comments (even more than before), to respectfully engage the panelists in
deeper thought and ensure they can address varied perspectives on this huge
topic.

I hope you and other Libertarians have the chance to attend. See you there!

Thank you for your reply Ben. I do hope to attend, and am copying this message to our local email list, so perhaps one or more other libertarians will too. (For those who may be interested, it’s tonight at 220 Montgomery Street, with doors open and refreshments starting at 5pm and the program starting at 6pm):

I do also appreciate you at least taking the time to engage, and doing so in a cordial manner – so it pains me somewhat to point out that (like the panelist at the last event) you didn’t actually answer my question:

…when will KALW schedule an event including myself or another Libertarian on a panel to talk about this issue…?
A panel comprised of folks offering different flavors of statism, while preferable to featuring only one flavor, is after all just not the same as a panel including a genuinely libertarian voice. Surely one person out of several every now and then isn’t too much to ask of a “public” radio station that receives taxpayer funding?

I don’t think you really gave a direct answer to my request for a libertarian host of the “Your Call” show every now and then, either. This would be a management/programming decision, and not simply up to the current (left-wing) host Rose Aguilar, correct?

Will be glad to see you there if you can make it.

I’d be happy to talk with you about what kind of panel you think would be
most appropriate. For this one, we only have limited seats, and there are
multiple point of views I’m hoping to include. (That’s also why I favor the
Town Hall format, which is potentially more inclusive.)

Regarding Your Call, we have job postings for sub hosts occasionally, and
we recently were hiring for a producer. We have processes for hiring, so I
can try to give you a heads up when we have opportunities.
