Thank you Kema, this is important and useful information! I’m copying the LPSF’s Activist list on this response.
I do have a few questions. The Internet tells me 730 Font Blvd. is the Gator Student Health Center on the SFSU campus, which is a pretty big building. Is there a specific room there in which the Wednesday meetings take place? How long do they typically run, and about how many people attend, on average? Do you or you co-worker you mentioned (Kevin?) run the meetings, or who organizes them? Are any SFSU student groups sponsoring or involved?
Is there an email or other discussion list for people working on this issue? Names and contact info of homeless folks or others in the community who are or want to be involved in activism to push back against the RV restrictions and/or other anti-homeless policies? Could we use these meetings to discuss planning a protest or protests around the issue, as you and I briefly discussed?

Hi Starchild,
I hope you are doing well. I truly apologize for the delay.
Here’s some background on the RV Ban:
In July 2025, the City of San Francisco passed a citywide 2-hour parking restriction that effectively bans RV parking. This will impact over 1,400 people living in their vehicles in San Francisco. According to the 2024 Point-In-Time Count, 90% of families experiencing unsheltered homelessness live in their vehicles. With the shortage of affordable housing, many individuals and families have no choice but to live in RVs.
The city has established a Permit Program that provides temporary exemptions from the 2-hour parking restrictions. However, eligibility is currently limited to people who were identified in the city database as of May 2025.
I’ve attached two sets of resources to this email:
Yellow brochure – A resource we created for RV residents explaining the RV ban, its impacts, and how to navigate the restrictions and protect their rights
White document – A schedule of the city’s information sessions where residents can learn about the permit program, ask questions, and register for permits if they haven’t been offered one
Additionally…
You, your members, and any RV residents you know are welcome to join our RV Community Meetings. These weekly meetings take place on Wednesdays 7PM at 730 Font Blvd. At these gatherings, we:
Provide updates on the RV ban
Guide residents through the permit process
Teach self-advocacy skills
Create space for community building and information sharing among RV residents
Please feel free to share these resources and information with your members and anyone in the RV community who may benefit. Our goal is to reach as many RV residents as possible.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Hi Starchild,
Thank you so much for reaching out and for your interest in engaging more
deeply with this issue.
The meeting takes place outside, in the courtyard of the building. It
typically runs for about an hour, with an average of maybe 16 people
attending. My coworker Lukas runs and organizes this meeting. SFSU is not
involved, it’s just a place where we can gather.
At this time, we don’t have a public email list that is specifically
focused on this campaign. Our outreach and organizing efforts with RV
residents and other impacted community members are happening through direct
relationship-building and smaller coordination spaces, rather than open
listservs or online groups. We are also not able to share names or contact
information for unhoused residents or community organizers. Much of our
work centers on building relationships rooted in consent and safety,
especially for people who are already navigating criminalization and
displacement.
As for these meetings, they’re primarily intended to share updates, teach
RV residents how to protect for themselves, and create a space where they
can share information and build community with each other. While direct
actions and protests are important tools in our broader movement, this
particular space isn’t used for protest planning. We like to allow the RV
residents to really take the lead in this work, and there are already
residents in this group who are organizing around these issues and working
to mobilize their community. I wouldn’t want outside voices to
unintentionally overshadow theirs.
That said, we do have some opportunities for collective action coming up in
early November that are currently in the planning phase, and we’ll be sure
to share details through the appropriate channels once they’re confirmed.
Please feel free to reach out with any additional questions or concerns. I
truly appreciate your passion and support.
Best regards,
Kema
