I like the term Ron Paul uses: "sound money." If we were to abolish the Fed and have a free market in money, gold may or may not emerge as the most popular trading commodity.

In my attempt to help out the Restore04 caucus, I was planning on
using the phrase "eliminate the Federal Reserve Bank's monopoly on
monetary supply" instead of "abolish the Federal Reserve." This would
allow those who wish to use other (commodity-backed) currencies to do
so legally, and FRNs would be just one of many competing currencies.
Of course, my guess is that FRNs would not be dropped as quickly as
some here may suggest, just as the USPS didn't go out of business when
it lost its monopoly on package delivery, and FedEx and UPS got into
the game. But it's nice to have multiple options to choose from.
Secret Service raids on legitimate businesses like the Liberty Dollar
offices are appalling (or a-Paul-ing if you prefer).
I'll also try to work the phrase "sound money" into my draft.
