RE: EQUALITY : RIGHT ON : [lpsf-discuss] TONIGHT: Marriage Equality rally & march

Thanks Richard....I have no objection to your analogy other than its
ability to generate a positive response among those for whom marriage
means more than a civil relationship. There are lots of these people.
Let's just call it a word of warning from a concerned friend. If this
gets into a battle at the Federal level, your cause is sunk in my view.
If I were you I would be going out of my way to make it clear that you
understand the clear differences between gay and straight unions but
that you are simply asking for equal protection under the law. Bringing
up the fact that many marriages don't have children or race differences
between men, women and marriage will only highlight your differences in
my view in the minds of a vast number of people. I'd also be lobbying
the entire movement for this to be a states' rights issue as it has
substantial problems facing it at the Federal and middle American level.

Take it or leave it...it's being offered in the spirit of concern for
your issue.

Best

Mike

Dear Everyone;

The SF Weekly has a quiz on the topic of gay marriage. It is tongue in cheek but still makes a few points. Enjoy the quiz.
