Proposed 2014 cannabis legalization initiative

Efforts are underway among cannabis activists to get another initiative on the California ballot to legalize the herb.

Here is a page where you can read the draft text of the measure and weigh in. I encourage libertarians to do so, for the obvious reason of seeking to ensure that we get a strong, well-worded measure this time around (last year's Prop. 19, unfortunately, was not such a measure):

Excuse me, Prop. 19 was on the ballot in 2010, not 2012. It lost by a fairly narrow margin, 54% to 46% -- in my opinion because it was a decidedly mixed bag and did not have the enthusiastic support of the cannabis community. I barely held my nose and voted for it myself.

I haven't yet looked at the current language on this initiative, but I contributed some language to it in an earlier draft form, and it looked pretty good at that time. With the positive votes in Colorado and Washington states last year, I think there is more optimism now about the chances of passing a solid legalization measure.
