I remember carrying a huge cardboard marijuana leaf attached to a pole about
ten feet tall while walking down Larkin or Polk street toward City Hall with
a large crowd lead by Dennis Peron. When we arrived at City Hall the police
were lined-up wearing riot gear, with batons, shields and leashed dogs
waiting for us. There was a television crew filming the event. Dennis Peron was
very bold; he walked up the steps of City Hall and exhaled a big puff of smoke
into the television camera. I thought we were going to catch hell from the
police; they snarled, but left us alone, probably because of the presence of the
television crew.
