Pennsylvania state government website falsely brands innocent Americans as "domestic terrorists"

I am writing to advise you that the Pennsylvania state government's web page at http://www.pa-aware.org/who-are-terrorists/domestic-6.asp contains false and defamatory material. It wrongly correlates peaceful political beliefs, such as opposition to gun control, support for jury rights, and the view that the U.S. government is an an enemy of freedom, with a violent and immoral methodology, namely terrorism.

  WordNet defines terrorism as follows:

terrorism n : the calculated use of violence (or threat of violence) against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature; this is done through intimindation or coercion or instilling fear

It should be obvious from this definition that believing in a bad cause does not make someone a terrorist, just as having a good cause does not justify terrorism. The validity of a person's beliefs and the rightness of his or her causes are completely independent of the means in which he or she is willing to engage to promote those causes or beliefs.

The Department of Homeland Security and the Alabama state government both recently removed websites that similarly crossed the line and labeled peaceful political dissidents within the United States as terrorists. Please take this web page down IMMEDIATELY, issue an APOLOGY to any persons wrongly maligned by the false material, and DISCIPLINE the employee(s) responsible for improperly labeling innocent civilians with peaceful political beliefs as "domestic terrorists" or at the very least send counsel them regarding sensitivity to dissenting ideologies and differentiating peaceful, legal, dissent from illegal violence.

Government actions such as putting up a website like the one referenced above tend to undermine any validity that the so-called "war on terror" may have. They can be equated with the FBI's actions via programs like Cointelpro in spying on domestic dissidents such as Martin Luther King Jr. and members of groups opposing U.S. government involvement in the war in Vietnam. Whoever is responsible for this website should be ashamed of themselves.

Sincerely,
