This is too good for a payroll service provider like myself to pass up without comment! The mention of "minimum wage" immediately categorizes these temporary entrepreneurs as "employees," subject to 94 million employment regulations from every level of government. Better they be categorized as "independent contractors." As long as they work for more than one entity, chose their own hours, and use their own clothing (no company provided uniforms), they are independent contractors. If Mike Denny would like to try a publicity-generating stunt of the care not cash type, hiring the San Francisco homeless as independent contractors to carry signs would be it. (By the way, this approach would be different than hiring the people who line up Cesar Chavez Blvd looking for temporary work, since in most cases these people could be easily categorized as "employees.")
