OWS and the Use of Force

More and more, I'm coming to think these protests will amount to little, if any change. The protestors are adopting the typical attitude of passive resistance---against thugs who overturn entire governments who stand in their way.

The fact is, nothing is gained by passively allowing the pigs to storm into these demonstrations and beat and arrest people at will. If this 'revolution' is to have any serious effects, it may be time to consider dropping the 'Gandhi Approach' and adopting the Cromwell Approach. As Sir Oliver once famously said; 'Don't strike while the iron is hot; make the iron hot by striking.'

As libertarians, we know that force is justified in self-defense. Marches and sign-waving are too little, too late. It's time to put this issue on the table: meet force WITH force. When I start seeing cops in riot gear rushing into these protests---then summarily dragged back out again by their heels---then, I'll have some faith that this movement is for real. But as it is now, it is nothing but a sideshow.

Hi Eric,

Huummm.. yet, India is now an independent nation, and the South no longer has signs over water fountains saying "Whites Only." So, Gandhi must have done something right! Sorry, Eric, most of us on this list take our Libertarian pledge seriously.
