Thanks, Mikester! I was just looking at an email with this info from Platform Committee chair Alicia Mattson (below) and thinking about forwarding it, when your message arrived beating me to it. But I'll copy the attachments to a few additional lists anyway.
My feeling, as previously stated, is that this year's Platform Committee proposals consisted of mostly minor and unobjectionable changes, albeit falling far short of what our platform needs to make it a strong, detailed document like we had in 2004 before it was gutted at the 2006 Portland convention.
My main regret from this year is that this sentence was dropped from the Property and Contract plank (2.1): "Where property, including land, has been taken from its rightful owners by the government or private action in violation of individual rights, we favor restitution to the rightful owners." This was part of a paragraph that was reworded -- the reworded version retained most of the original meaning, but skipped this part (I think the proposal came from Alicia Mattson). This language was I think particularly meaningful with regard to the injustices perpetrated by the U.S. government against American Indian tribes.
