I am writing to ask that the California Public Utilities Commission reject Pacific Gas & Electric's application for a $49 million rate increase. PG&E should be fully privatized, and exposed to competition. As long as it is a monopoly, it will always be in a position to overcharge customers, because adequate oversight to prevent minor overruns here and there like excessive spending on installation costs will NEVER be practical or cost-effective for a government agency.
In the meantime, when a government-sanctioned monopoly seeks to raise its rates, it is the equivalent of a tax increase foisted on the backs of the public, and should be opposed as such.
