That is not a new question, given Daniel Ellsberg's Pentagon Papers and the recent coming out of 5 of the activists that broke into the FBI headquarters in 1971. Edward Snowden is the most prominent latest in a very long list of activists who have put their lives on the line in an effort to advise the general public that action is constantly needed -- "Eternal Vigilance" -- to discourage government from overstepping its Constitutional boundaries.
