Hi All. The November ballot measures are quickly approaching. For those
interested in the wording that gets printed in the Voters Handbook (for
those who actually read the handbook), which greatly influences how many
voters vote, the public meetings start next week. I heard Betty Packard,
who has been running these committee meetings for about 20 years, speak at
the Log Cabin Republican meeting I was invited to speak at a few months
ago, and she was most entertaining and informative. She noted that San
Francisco is one of the few municipalities that actually has a
simplification committee for the ballot measures. She said an incredible
amount of bull gets tossed around as special interests do their utmost to
influence the wording of the measures so the voters vote *their* way, so
they have to cut through all the bias to present it fairly and
understandably to the voters. She also noted that the wording has to be
understandable at an 8th grade level, which is not highly complimentary of
our current educational system. For anyone who can attend, this can be
worthwhile. For sure there will be another gross receipts tax measure on
the November ballot--this one for the homelessness industry--even though
the voters just approved an additional gross receipts tax last month.
Thanks!
Aubrey
