I don't recall for sure whether I ever actually sent McClintock any
money, but I did volunteer as a vote-counting monitor during the
runoff election when he was almost elected state controller a few
years ago. I admit I still wish he'd been elected to that office --
for a position where the focus is all about fiscal matters I think
he'd be all right. But this comment from him is one more piece of
evidence that his social views have more in common with those of
Jesse Helms than with libertarianism, despite his sound take on
economics. I already kind of mentally wrote him off my very short
"good Republican" list earlier this year when he chose to endorse
Fred Thompson for president instead of Ron Paul, but if someone will
post the number, I will call his office to voice my objection to his
comment about the marriage issue.
