For those who haven't heard, the Libertarian Party of California is in the process of rolling out a new website...
...and I for one couldn't be happier to see this change! The existing site has long been an ugly eyesore, imho, with an interactivity level of roughly zero. The new site, by contrast, is attractive, colorful, and includes a number of new interactive features common to social networking sites. When you sign up for a free account, you get a personal profile, can choose your own avatar, and have the opportunity to post to various groups and forums. You can also see who else has been active, and apparently even have "friends" like on sites such as Facebook (although the site is currently still in "beta" mode, and this feature along with a number of aspects appears to be not fully developed yet). You can even have a personal blog on the site! There's also a store to buy Libertarian items (a link to LPStuff.com), a pending business directory (something that was unfortunately dropped some time ago from the old site for reasons that never did make sense to me), calendar and opinion poll widgets prominently displayed on the home page, and much more that looks exciting and promising.
One part of the new site that does seem to be fully up and running is the "groups" feature:
http://freebook.ca.lp.org/groups/
To help get participation going, I've started several general-interest groups that I wanted to let people know about as being of potential interest to California Libertarians -- one for Bylaws discussion, one for Platform discussion, and one for discussing what the LPC Executive Committee is up to.
I've also started a blog -- http://freebook.ca.lp.org/serfcity/ -- although given my history of procrastinating on blogging, I'm not going to guarantee regular posts. For some reason once it becomes a matter of going to a website and spontaneously generating content, as opposed to participating in the ongoing conversation of email lists, it starts to feel like work. Of course the more feedback I get, the more likely I am to be a diligent blogger!
Anyway, I urge everybody to sign up, make use of this marvelous new LPC online portal, and give it your input to help it become even better!
Love & Liberty,
((( starchild )))
