Need Libertarian voter guide

Does anyone know if the Libertarian Party of California is planning on issuing a voter guide? I just received my sample ballot and there is only one LP candidate.

Nina

Hi Nina,

As far as we know, there is only one LP candidate running. I understand that Aubrey Freedman, LPSF Chair, is doing some campaigning for him. As far as the ballot propositions for California and San Francisco, Aubrey will post LPSF recommendations in the next couple of days on the LPSF website www.lpsf.org

The only item on the LPSF website as of right now regarding the June elections is an article on the "Waterfront Wars" mentioning some of the issues involved in Proposition B. LPSF is not taking an official YES or NO position on Prop B.

Hi Marcy and Nina. Sadly there is only 1 Libertarian running statewide and that's Jonathan Jaech for Attorney General with the nice short (and inexpensive) statement in the state booklet. There was one other Libertarian who was going to be on the ballot (Jose Castenada from the LA area), but I guess he had some problem with signatures at the last moment and didn't qualify. The Top Two is killing us--why bother to run when in almost all cases candidates from the major parties will advance to the November election with the third party candidates left behind in the dust? Though in the June election, even though we have more registered voters than both the Greens and Socialists (Peace & Freedom), both parties are fielding more candidates this time than the Libertarians. Not too impressive for us.

To correct the record, there was some talk of campaigning for Jonathan Jaech, but I ended up campaigning for John Dennis, a solid libertarian as far as I'm concerned running as a Ron Paul Republican against Pelosi. I was also going to do some phone banking for Mike Benoit, a Libertarian running for Congress in the 50th District in San Diego, but he put the phone banking program on hold due to lack of support.

The state measure recommendations will be posted on our website on Sunday. Not too much nonsense in this election, but we expect a lot more statist measures for the November election.

Thanks for asking!
Aubrey

Not only the problem with not advancing to the general election, but also not even being able to get on the Primary ballot due to the huge increase in signatures in lieu of filing fee! But indeed, the other small parties managed to do it. Aubrey, maybe we could rant about the reasons for the LP's poor showing at one of our LPSF monthly meetings!

Marcy

I am looking for a voter guide that identifies the libertarians in disguise. If not that then the Tea Party candidates.

Hi Nina,

You might want to contact the Republican Party then.

Marcy

Are you kidding me? No point in contacting the Republican Party establishment. They are trying to squash the Tea Party candidates!
