There is
lots of talk today about the struggling middle class. I hope Libertarians/libertarians will study
the number of proposed legislation aimed at assisting the middle class, and
offer to the general public some reasoned and knowledgeable opinions. LPSF has started its “campaign” already to
discuss the situation from as many points of view as possible. Please stay tuned regarding LPSF’s Tax Day
and other activities leading up to the 2016 elections. No good for us to be playing “ain’t it awful”
instead of taking action.
Both San
Francisco Mayor Ed Lee and President Barack Obama recently called for major assistance
to the middle class. San Francisco Mayor
Ed Lee’s annual state of the city address a few days ago proposed legislation to
appear on next year’s ballot that would increase subsidies for renters and for
home mortgages. President Obama’s state
of the union message called for significant increased taxation to finance “middle
class economics,” such as free community college.
The other
side of the coin would call for some knowledgeable , specific reasons why the
very things government have been doing to “help” are shredding the middle
class, rendering it as dependent on the vast bureaucracy as the lower-income
class was a while back.
There are
numerous articles on the Internet about the decimation of the middle
class. Establishment publications tend
to talk about “income inequality” as the result of irresponsible corporations
not treating their workers well, or greedy investors owning appreciated and
untaxed investments. Free market
publications focus more on the growth of the government bureaucracy, the
survival of which depends on unbridled borrowing (infinite growth of the
national debt), financialization of the economy (transfer of money from wages
to investments), and a subservient and dependent population.
