March 2024 minutes - suggested corrections

Hello all,

This and several following emails I’ll be sending contain my suggested edits/corrections of the meeting minutes that Richard Fast prepared, and helpfully re-sent. My apologies to the acting and now current secretary for the delay in reviewing them.

Love & Liberty,

LIBERTARIAN PARTY OF SAN FRANCISCO Regular Meeting - March 2024

Guests Present
Jen (last name?) from Alameda, Aaron Mayhew from L.A.

With only 2 voting members present, the meeting was held as an informal discussion with no formal call to order or set agenda.

Terry Nycum informed the group that he has paid his LPCA dues.

LPSF has three out of four officers. Because the delegates at the 2024 LPCA convention did not approve (by a 50-53 vote) Richard Fast rejoining the LPCA as a full member, he remains an associate member volunteering as secretary until another member steps up or until his 12 month waiting period is over (Aug. 31, 2024)-- whichever comes first. There was no objection.

Jen (guest) left the meeting apparently out of frustration but with no explanation. Possibly upset the LP did not do Not enough activism against government-imposed Covid lockdowns?

Activist Reports:

Starchild is reaching out to local media, such as KALW, NPR, and KQED to get on the air and give a libertarian perspective. SF Standard is another outlet. Also had correspondence with the SF Standard about bringing back reader comments.

Richard Fast attended the state convention and is in contact with Jose Casteneda in L.A. about co-hosting a social with the LP of Mexico and/or Baja California.

Aaron Mayhew (guest) is circling a petition regarding deregulation and the state housing crisis. Starchild wanted to read it first before giving LPSF support.

Action Items

The group discussed asking members to consider running for public office in the November 2024 election. Previous candidates include Starchild, Mike Denny, Marcy Berry (moved to North Carolina). Starchild remains open to running this cycle, but would like to see more people willing to help. Richard reiterated his support.

Keeping on top of ballot argument deadlines for the voter booklet Voter Information Pamphlet is a priority.

Richard suggested tabling at outdoor events to recruit more members since the existing membership has not responded to calls for activism. Starchild supported the idea, but doesn’t want to feed the state with filing by paying permit fees. “Sunday Streets” might be one event in which fees don’t go to the state.

Starchild mentioned the idea of hosting a Golden Gate Park social with an inflatable boxing ring, where people could wear donkey and elephant masks and fight each other with boxing gloves. There are site-specific rules to be aware of. We could have a DJ and/or the LP presidential nominee to promote the event.

Starchild and Richard discussed the possibility of a 4/20 social on Hippy Hippie Hill with petitions for people sign regarding deregulation and the California housing crisis.

The meeting ended at 5:05pm.

The next meeting will be the second Saturday of April at the 3rd floor Paley conference room at the SF Public Library (100 Larkin St.) and online via Jitsi videoconference.

Post-script: Immediately after the meeting, it was discovered that the LPSF would need to hold another officer elections meeting in order to retain active status with the state party. Richard F. notified the LPCA secretary on March 9, 2024 of the upcoming officer election meeting. Starchild will notify the membership before March 13, 2024 to ensure the 30 days’ advance notice is fulfilled.
