LPSF wiki on pro/anti-liberty policies of Trump's second term

Hi all, the mailing list / forum allows you to make wiki (i.e., collaborative) posts.

I’m sure that a lot of you are vexxed about some of the more authoritarian policies taken by the Trump admin, especially since he was supported by many LP members, leadership, and affiliates.

Therefore, I have created a list of anti/pro-liberty policies by Trump as a reference. It’s just a template and not even remotely complete. If you want to contribute, please keep each list item short, briefly listing the policy, a reference, and the reason it’s un-libertarian, or other essential info. You can find instruction for editing the post here.

Make edits by logging in to the forum. I haven’t tried this before, so if you have trouble with it, please send me a DM or email so I have a chance to address any issues. Thanks!

Anti-Liberty Policies

  • Increased federal control of private universities
  • Racially targeted checks of citizenship / immigration papers and extrajudicial deportations
  • Tariffs
  • Deficit Spending in “One Big Beautiful Bill” [ref]
  • Kicking transgender soldiers out of the U.S. government’s military
  • Threatening Canada, Panama, and Greenland with military force
  • Continuing to fund the Israeli government’s war crimes in Gaza
  • Threatening to “primary” the most pro-freedom member of Congress, libertarian Republican Thomas Massie
  • Shaking down law firms for money under threat of government lawsuits
  • As in first term, allowing special interests, including from outside the U.S., to contribute money to Trump’s organizations and investments, enabling the appearance and likely reality of influence-buying, and creating new vehicles for this apparent purpose
  • Selectively denying media access to cover the White House (e.g. Wall Street Journal, Associated Press?)
  • Suing sanctuary cities over their unwillingness to cooperate with federal law enforcement [ref]
  • Reversing precedents to further criminalize homelessness and allow forcing homeless into treatment [ref]

Pro-Liberty Policies

  • Pardoned Ross Ulbricht
  • DOGE?
  • Crypto?
  • Pending recognition of Somaliland?
  • Taking back taxpayer money from Harvard (and other universities?)
  • Defunding NPR and PBS

WRT the first bullet point:

• tRump graduated Wharton, as a Dartmouth grad, as all Ivy Leaguers know full well, Ivy League & other PRIVATE Universities ( & all private & parochial schools ) DO NOT NEED #USgovt Federal Funding ( ie: Your Earnings&Savings aka “tax dollars” ), they get PLENTY ( MILLIONS ) of voluntary donations from graduates, parents of students, & private institutions. Like Dartmouth, Harvard & many other PRIVATE COLLEGES defied #USgovt “laws” by Educating AAs/Blacks/Escaped Slaves & Native Indigenous Tribesmen, decades before the #USgovt ( ie: Executive/potus, Legislative/congress, Judicial/supremes ) made it “legal” to do so; they could only do this because they were not accepting any money via the #USgovt. They had no such financial strings attached to their Educational Curriculums, Admissions, or Standards.

That status quo ante should be reinstated. tRump’s antics are a move to bring attention to why POOR Americans are Funding already well-funded elite Students’ elite Educations instead of using all their earnings for their own Childrens’ Educations.

Any time the #USgovt gives you something “for free” it comes with restrictions; like, 1) you must enforce criminally oppressive scamdemic masking & jab mandates on your entire student body — to enrich crony bigPharma #industrialmedicalcomplex exploitation, 2 ) your students must register with selective service as disposable cannon fodder for illegal bloody #industrialmiilitaryCONplex wars, etc etc.

WRT the second bullet point:

Even “liberal” media talking heads have praised the RESULTS ( ends ) if not the strategy ( admittedly erratic clowncart means ) of the tRump tariffs.

WRT the other bullet points, Folks need to learn to READ & VERIFY & TRIANGULATE FACTS for themselves — not rely on interweb trivia from illiterate & innumerate folks who cannot investigate issues themselves & have little & even elementary knowledge of US History.
