hi all,
some recent polling shows that a simple, easily understandable concept can
get more support from the voting public. we have discussed something that
could succeed and bring attention to our agenda.
how about something like:
"The Mayor and Board of Supervisors may not negotiate or approve contracts
for city public servants and employees if that would result in average wages
and benefits for City employees as a whole that exceeds the average wages and
benefits for non-public-employee San Francisco residents."
this would hammer home the point that city employees make far more than the
average citizen. also, the benefits and pensions wd come under scrutiny as
well.
the practical effect would be to ignite debate on public sector wages and
benefits, and get some momentum towards reform.
we shd make sure that there are at least 5-10 members well-versed in the
facts and data that wd be available to go out and speak to the political clubs
etc
any comments?
