[lpny_manhattan] Re: Gary Johnson FEC filing

My question and my point is that he did not file in 2012 either as far as I
can tell.

I looked on the list of filers for 2012 and I did not see his name of the
name of the Libertarian Party on the list.

Am I mistaken??

I just did some further checking. Gary Johnson 2012 Inc. a campaign
committee did file but Gary Johnson personally did not.

The Campaign Committee seems to be in some kind of legal trouble as it was
audited and wound up owing $336,000 for "Non Authorized Expenditures" and
still owes $112,000

This may explain why Gary Johnson has not declared yet.

Please understand that I am in favor of Gary Johnson. I am definitely not
against him,

The reason I am asking these questions is because I filed to run as a
Democrat a few days ago and I am trying to learn and see how this works.

The Campaign Committee Gary Johnson 2012 Inc. filed but it was not signed
and Gary Johnson himself does not seem to be a member of that committee.

According to its most recent report the committee has zero in the bank and
owes $1.3 million dollars

$1,395,093 is owed to be exact.

This may explain why Gary Johnson has not announced that he is running.

Again, I am not against Gary Johnson. I am strongly in favor of him and I
hope he is elected. I am just trying to learn how this works.

Thanks for this information, Richard. It appears that Gary Johnson did register as a Libertarian presidential candidate for 2016. So, what is he waiting for? Some say it takes a lot of money to run a campaign, so he is conserving his funds. This argument sounds like hogwash to me. A gazillion free Facebook pages would pop up overnight if he clearly stated he is running and what his platform was. Maybe an official declaration would jeopardize his law suit against the national debate people? That would sound plausible. Meanwhile, potential supporters are lining up behind conservative and libertarian-ish Republicans for lack of other (realistic) choices.

Well, I think he will announce this month.

Perhaps you missed my earlier email? I'll repost it.

As I said twice already, he did file. Here is the link again.
