Letter To The Editor of California Freedom

Big Tent Libertarianism

Libertarianism has been commonly viewed as consisting of limited-government libertarianism and anarcho-libertarianism. The former include Ayn Rand and Henry Hazlitt, with Lysander Spooner and Murray Rothbard in the latter camp. In our Libertarian Party of San Francisco both wings are amply represented. We have an adhesive, active group and we get along famously. We're all passionate about shrinking Big Government.

Consequently, it was with great surprise and dismay that I read in the October 2005 California Freedom ("Find Agreement...and Fun, p.2) Aaron Starr state: "The Libertarian Party is now libertarian, not anarchist." Assuming this is not an executive order to remove the many anarcho-libertarians from our membership, perhaps Aaron would clarify his words.
